Successful Strategies Start with the Basics

December 19th, 2006 by Larry Lang

Successfully making money online seems like an overwhelming challenge at times. There are so many options to start with, and so many resources to read, that it can come across as too much work.

It doesn’t have to be this way!

Forget agonizing over options or reading thousands of pages of research material. Making money online is easy and attainable for anyone who’s interested. With just a little bit of planning and forethought—and no expertise whatsoever—you too can be making money in no time.

The Bare Bones of Making Money Online

  • Most online money-making advice stems from the same basic concepts.
  • Just one quality information source replaces the need for thousands of others.
  • Learn the basics of online sales first; learn the rest as you go!

Countless websites, e-mails, and e-books promise to let us in on their secrets for unlocking untold fortunes on the Internet. Just thinking about the amount of information out there is overwhelming at times.

If you’ve ever wondered how you could ever learn enough to sell successfully, you’ll be happy to learn one more secret. Almost all of that information simply recounts the same basic sales methods—over and over again.

They recount these sales methods because these sales methods work. Every author in every medium just adds a bit of their personal flavor, and then re-packages the material as a new product.

Choosing the Right Resources

Look for a general reference that applies to multiple ways of making money online.

  • Choose what you’ll sell (and how you’ll sell it) based on what makes the best fit.
  • Experience is the best teacher—start selling right away!

What does this mean for you? You don’t need stacks of books or printouts to learn how to make money online. Instead, you just need a basic grasp of the basic ideas.

One or two resources that outline and illustrate these ideas are more than enough to get you well on your way. Look for authors that teach in a way you understand. For example, most people grasp concepts quickly when given real-world examples. If this sounds like you, then you’ll want resources that are full of practical examples and explanations.

Start with a general online sales reference that covers all the major ways to profit from the Internet. It should also provide step-by-step instructions for each area.

Using this information, decide which profit pathway is the best fit for you. Think about how to apply the basic sales strategies you learned to your chosen money-making method. Then start trying them out! As you go along, look for more specific information resources that address your particular needs—but never forget the basics.

What’s the bottom line? Start from the bottom up. Even the most advanced sales strategy is built on the basics. Get your hands on one or two quality guides that explain how the tried-and-true sales techniques work. Then dive in and start selling!

Offer More Value

December 14th, 2006 by Larry Lang

You want the biggest bang for your buck. Your audience members want the same exact thing.

Are you giving it to them?

The more valuable your product is the more people will want to buy it. This is a basic concept that is all too easy to overlook. The following strategies were developed to help you add more value to your product line. More value for your customers means an increase in sales for you!

Successful Ways to Add More Value

Brainstorm ways to improve your current product.

Convert one or more of these ideas into a supplement for your product.

Promote your supplement as one more reason to buy your product.

Think about your product. What could make it even better? What else would someone buying your product be interested in having?

Information is the most successful way to add more value. Popular choices include e-books, special reports, and newsletters. Your particular product may lend itself to other enhancements.

For example, if you sell a graphic design program, you could add value with a bonus clip-art collection or a selection of stock photography images. If your product is an e-book on search engine optimization, you could add value by including a special report covering new keyword strategies.

Be sure to highlight your added value in all of your promotional materials! Your product by itself may not be enough for some customers. However, those same customers could make a purchase right away if they got just a little more value out of the deal.

Add More Value to Your Product Only If It Adds More Value to Your Business

Avoid the urge to add too much value to any one product.

Weigh the costs of each add-on against the potential benefits.

When you’re just starting out, start small.

It’s all too easy to want to bundle every idea that you brainstorm with your product. After all, the more you add, the more value your product provides. And this means increased sales—right?

Yes, adding ten bonus products at no additional charge adds more value to your product. But adding too much value actually hurts your ability to make more money. It’s important to strike a balance between more value for the product and more value for the business.

First, consider the costs involved with adding more value. If it means an increase in sales, some small costs may be necessary. For example, if you want to add more value by including a bonus e-book, you may need to pay a one-time fee for the resale rights.

Weigh the costs of each added value against the benefits that each value will bring. If you come across something that would make a fantastic supplement to your current product, it’s worth a small investment. However, if you are adding something on just for the sake of adding it, then you should spend very little on it—or don’t add it at all.

If you’re just starting out, look to add value in ways that cost little to nothing. As sales increase and profits rise, you can decide later on if you want to spend a bit more on new product enhancements.

The more you include with your original product, the more value your product will have to your audience. Of course, the more value a product has, the more willing someone will be to spend the money to buy it.

Adding more value the right way leads to a huge jump in sales. This profit increase is especially enjoyable because it takes no effort to maintain this added value over time. All you need to do is select the right product add-ons, and then watch your sales increase!
